San Manuel Miner
The Miners hung tough with the ninth-ranked Sabercats in last Friday’s home football game, trailing only 14 – 7 heading into the fourth quarter. But the Sabercats poured it on in the final quarter, outscoring the Miners 29 – 0 on their way to a 43 – 7 victory.
The loss effectively ended any hopes the Miners had of reaching the playoffs. Even a win against the Sabercats may not have earned a playoff berth.
Despite the loss in the season finale, the Miners’ season should be considered nothing other than a success in head coach David Ward’s first year at the school.
The Miners won four-straight games after starting the season with consecutive losses. They finished their season with a record of 6 – 4, including 4 – 2 in sectional play, which was good enough to finish third behind playoff teams Pusch Ridge Christian Academy and San Tan Foothills.
