Resolution Copper recently informed local residents at a community forum and via mailed letters about the upcoming hydrology test site that will be drilled off of Mary Dr. within the Town limits. The bore hole monitoring will be located on BHP property formerly known as the old rodeo arena.
The water monitoring bore hole will allow the company to monitor the hydrology; this is also part of the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) permitting process for the project. The NEPA requires that the company do extensive baseline studies and substantiative plans for the protection of ground water and surface water. The location chosen will allow the company to monitor both shallow and deep waters in the area to meet the NEPA requirements.
What residents need to be aware of is that the drilling of the bore hole will be a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week operation for about 50 days. A sound barrier wall will be constructed around the rig and sound mufflers will be installed on equipment to muffle some of the noise. The drill rig will also have lighting that will lessen the light pollution from the rig. It is anticipated that the drilling will end in late September.
Once the well is constructed the monitoring of the water will go on indefinitely. The monitoring site will include a small fenced enclosure to protect equipment and the well head. The monitoring site will include telemetry which will reduce the access requirements.
Construction of the site will be begin as soon as permits from the Town of Superior have been approved, which is anticipated to be around Aug. 20, 2014.
