San Manuel Miner
The Miners’ softball team is ranked first in Division IV, according to the AIA website, and is playing like it on the field. The Miners won all three games they played last week by a combined score of 33 – 2. They defeated Ft. Thomas (19 – 0), San Carlos (11 – 0), and 5th-ranked Ray (3 – 2).
The Miners have now won 12 games in-a-row and suffered their last loss over a month ago, on March 8, 2014, against Flagstaff.
Against San Carlos, Player of the Game Nicole Encinas went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base. Felica Gomez was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Lyana Waddell pitched four innings for the win. She shutout the Braves on one hit and struck out six. Waddell, who is ranked at or near the top of most statistical pitching categories, was relieved by Angela Navarro in the fifth.
