PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. – The Central Arizona College Aravaipa Campus Spring Speakers Series begins on Monday, January 25 with Margaret Regan, a longtime journalist in Tucson who has won multiple awards for her reporting on the border and immigration. She will speak about her new book, Detained and Deported: Stories of Immigrant Families Under Fire.
Additional speakers in the series include:
February 1, 2016 – Marla Smith-Nilson, Founder and Executive Director of Water1st International, who works with poor communities in Honduras, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, and India to fund and build permanent and sanitary water sources, freeing up women and girls for work and school, and reducing water-borne illnesses. In ten years Water1st has funded 1,500 projects – and not one has failed.
March 21, 2016 – Dennis L. Knapp, Director of the Pinal County Medical Examiner office
April (Date TBD) – Margaret Evans, biologist at the University of Arizona’s Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research
Community members and students are encouraged to attend these free informative sessions. All talks will be held at the Aravaipa Campus Community Room, E102 (80440 E. Aravaipa Road Winkelman, AZ) from 11 a.m. until noon.
