Orville H. Hed Jr. passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2019. He was born to Orville Hed Sr. and Awanda Hed in Mankato, MN Sept. 22,1950.
Orville was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1969. He was drafted into the Army and served his country 1971 – 1973 and spent 1 ½ years in Germany. He was trained in Artillery. He earned National Defense Service Medal Sharpshooters M-16. He was also trained as a wireman. After the service he worked various jobs around Mankato.
Orville relocated to Arizona in the late 1970s. He worked as an electrician until he devloped difficulties with carpel tunnel in both hands. From there he struck out on his own moving up by the Silver King Mine. He had an older motor home to live in and used generators for electricity aided by solar panels. He walked all over in the mountains picking up old metal and beautiful rocks and some gold. Up there it was perfect silence and so peaceful. He said he was so much closer to God.
In August 2017, Orville went to be seen for a broken hip and cancer was found. His diagnosis was Stage 4 Lung Cancer that had spread to his bones and lymph nodes and given 4-6 months. He stretched that out to almost 2 years. He was a fighter, but succumbed to the cancer on June, 27, 2019.
Orville is survived by sisters, Sandra (Bob) Mosser of St. James, MN and Pamela (Steve) Fry of Elysian, MN; and various cousins.
Orville was preceded in death by his parents Orville and Awanda (Cammack) Hed, paternal grandparents Harry and Hilma (Erickson) Hed and Irwin Cammack, Magnus and Emma (Bogue) Helgesen and many uncles and aunts.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at 5 p.m. at Superior Family Funeral followed by a short service by a military chaplain. Following the viewing a Celebration of Life will be held at Superior VFW, so we can share all the good times at 7:30 p.m.
Interment will be held at Southern Arizona Veterans Cemetery in Marana, AZ on Wednesday, July 10, 2019.
