Sky Island Alliance and the Western National Parks Association are teaming up to offer a two-part class in Oro Valley, guiding participants on how to use motion-activated cameras to observe local wildlife and contribute to regional conservation efforts. The hands-on course, open to adults and children, will take place on Wednesdays, Nov. 12 and Nov. 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Western National Parks Store’s Kiva Room, located at 12880 N. Vistoso Village Dr., Oro Valley (85755).
The first session introduces participants to Sky Island Alliance’s conservation initiatives and teaches the basics of operating backyard wildlife cameras. The second session focuses on identifying animals captured on camera and contributing data to the FotoFauna conservation program, which helps track wildlife populations across the region.
Participants may bring their own motion-activated cameras, with limited loaner cameras available for the duration of the class. For those interested in continuing their wildlife monitoring, a complete camera kit can be purchased for $100. To reserve a loaner camera or purchase a kit, contact Eamon Harrity at Sky Island Alliance by Nov. 1.
The course fee is $50 per adult, with free admission for children. Additional parking is available at the rear of the Western National Parks Store.
