The Oracle Brush Dump is open. The hours of operation are 7 a.m. through 5 p.m., seven days a week.
As the name implies, this site is for brush only. No trash, construction materials, hazardous materials, dirt, gravel, or any non-brush related materials are accepted. This includes green cactus, because it does not burn well; as well as large tree stumps, which seldom burn all the way.
Fire Chief Robert Jennings stated, “Yes, it did take a long time, but alas, we are not in charge of Mother Nature, who has not blessed us with much moisture this last year. That said, our crews worked very hard to burn the huge piles of brush (and other stuff) and it is now clean and ready to accept brush only.”
Materials which do not burn or, at least not well, which are left at such facilities become unexpected burdens, costing more time and money to haul away. Remember, the Oracle Brush Dump is a resource for the whole community, to make it safer for everyone, as well as less unkempt and a place of which to be proud. Such services can only last as long as they are used wisely for the intended purpose. Please help us continue to offer this convenience.
Chief Jennings stated, “Those who dump these unacceptable items are jeopardizing the program as burning these materials are strictly prohibited in our burn permit. We do not have the resources to monitor everything dumped by every person. Please, if you see someone dumping such items, either remove the items yourself or report back to us at the fire station what was dumped, the description of the vehicle and a license plate number, if possible, so that we can ban these offenders.”
Chief Jennings also stated, “Thank you for your patience during this last year. We look forward to serving this great community of Oracle, which now includes the area of Campo Bonito, which was recently annexed into the Oracle Fire District, and wish all of you a happy, prosperous, and above all, healthy, new year!”
An alternative to the brush dump, for trash and other materials, is the Waste Management (WM) transfer station in Oracle. Former Pinal County Supervisor for District 1, Pete Rios, has issued three free vouchers for WM to residents in the Tri-Community area for years. Now that Kevin Cavanaugh has taken over the position, he has decided to not only continue issuing vouchers, but to offer six for the year.
Vouchers can be obtained from the office in Mammoth at 118 Catalina Ave., Mondays through Thursday from 9 a.m. through 3 p.m., with your utility bill that has your physical address showing that you reside in District 1, plus a copy of your State ID. Or, you may fax copies of these two documents to 520-866-7838. Another piece of good news is that any vouchers from 2020 will be accepted at WM through Jan. 31.
