Miguel “Mike” Herrada, 88, passed away in Houston, Texas on April 29, 2024, due to unknown causes. He was one of nine children born to the late Miguel and Concepcion Herrada.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Concepcion; brothers, Teodoro, Ricardo and Jose; sister, Paulina; and his son, Mario.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; siblings, Margarita, Antonio, Luis and Manuel; sons, Hans and Michael; grandchildren, Starla Graham, Darla Gookin, Nickolaus Herrada and Erik Bouillon; and great-grandchildren, Lauren, Alyssa, Clayton, Brittney, Alejandro, Adrianna, Rosalie and Scarlett.
Mike attended Superior High School from 1950-1954. He was a great athlete excelling in baseball and football. He let it be known, “I was too short to play basketball.” After high school, Mike attended Arizona State University in Tempe. He graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering in 1958. He also graduated from ROTC as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army.
Mike went on to basic training at Ft. Sill Oklahoma as an Artillery Officer. He was reassigned to Germany where he served for a number of years leading to a promotion of Captain. While Mike was serving in the US army in Germany he met and married the love of his life, Irene.
When Mike left the service he moved to Houston, Texas where he worked many years in the Department of Transportation building highways.
Mike was a member of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Houston where he and Irene served as Extra Ordinary Ministers. He attended many functions at the local German club with his family.
When their father passed away, the family moved to Phoenix where Mike, his uncle Juan and his brothers helped build a new home for the family.
The family was assisted by Forest Park East Funeral Home and Cemetery of Houston, where Mike’s family celebrated his life on Aug. 9, beginning at 11 a.m. Mary Wiley, his niece, sang Ave Maria per Mike’s request.
