Superior Mayor Mila Besich
As we kicked off 2026, the Town of Superior started the year maintaining our ever-present, keen focus on good governance and accountability. Town Council, staff, and our board and commission members participated in a training session on our state’s Open Meeting Law and Council roles and responsibilities, taught by the Arizona League of Cities and Towns. These trainings help keep our skills sharp, ensure compliance with important legal requirements, and reinforce our unwavering commitment to transparency and public trust.
During our regular Council meeting, we approved the Town’s 2025 audit. I’m proud to share that once again, the audit showed Superior is in good fiscal order, with no findings. This is a direct reflection of the hard work and diligence of our staff in maintaining accurate records and sound financial practices. Congratulations to our entire team for keeping our Town fiscally strong.
Council also approved a contract with the State of Arizona to construct approximately 6,000 feet of new sidewalk along Panther Drive, from US 60 to Sunset Drive. This important project will improve safety, connectivity, and walkability for residents and visitors alike.
In addition, Council approved a contract with Veregy, who will be developing an infrastructure improvement plan focused on energy sustainability. This includes the design and implementation of solar energy at the Wastewater Treatment Plant—at no cost to the Town—helping us reduce long-term operational costs while advancing our sustainability goals.
Looking ahead to 2026, we anticipate the completion of several major projects, including the renovation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Construction is also expected to begin on the pipelines for the Queen Creek Restoration Project in mid-Spring. With the federal appraisals now complete on the Town’s 546 acres of land exchange properties, we are optimistic that land acquisition will be finalized this year, opening new opportunities for growth and development in Superior. Many of these projects have entailed years-long, extensive planning and grant processes, and I am proud of our progress and excited to see many of these projects finally be completed.
It’s an exciting start to the year, and I look forward to sharing more progress as these projects move forward. Wishing everyone a Happy and Blessed 2026!
