Summer is in full swing, and Superior continues to shine with progress and partnerships that move our community forward!  Thank you to Resolution Copper and the Town of Superior for hosting an amazing Independence Day celebration, it is wonderful to share the excitement of fireworks for everyone in the community to see and experience in a safe manner.

During the July council meeting, we approved contracts for the preconstruction of the pipeline for the Queen Creek Restoration Project. This is a key step in restoring our treasured riparian area and ensuring water sustainability for generations to come.  This project is one of the latest projects to go from plans on paper into a construction phase.  We couldn’t be more proud to bring this decades old project to life.

Council finalized the FY 2025-26 budget, a balanced and thoughtful plan that prioritizes infrastructure, public safety, economic development, and quality of life, reflecting our shared vision for a thriving Superior.  While we are anticipating revenue short falls due to the State of  Arizona’s Flat Tax, our budget is still focussed on maintaining our staffing levels and caring for our residents.

Another major milestone this summer is the release of the Draft Record of Decision (ROD) and Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Resolution Copper Project. This marks an important point in the federal process, and we remain deeply engaged in conversations with the Tonto National Forest and Resolution Copper about how to ensure mining and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.  This is work that we have given a great deal of focus to in order to ensure that this mining project remains a net positive for our community for generations to come.  As the Record of Decision is signed, we as a community will see many developments from new jobs added into the our local workforce pipeline, campground construction at the Castleberry property and many of our mitigation agreements begin to take effect.  There will be additional work on our local infrastructure and increased staffing for our police, fire and emergency services as the Resolution Copper project moves into their construction phases.  This is truly an exciting time for our community.

Just in time for school to start, we can all celebrate  the completion of the Panther Drive Bridge project.  This bridge has been a long time coming and will improve safety and connectivity for our students, families, and residents.

A big thank you to our Parks & Recreation team, Swimming Pool  and Library staff along with the Institute Digital Inclusion and Acceleration – Digital Navigators at the HIVE, who have all done an outstanding job delivering creative and fun summer programs that keep our kids and families active and connected.   Great work everyone – it was the busiest Summer I can remember!

Im excited to announce: Superior will soon have an 18-hole disc golf course! This new amenity will bring even more outdoor recreation to our community, showcasing our beautiful landscapes and providing a new way for residents and visitors to enjoy Superior.  We appreciate the financial support from the Windus family who donated the funds in effort to build the park!  Keep an eye out for the course begin construction soon at the U.S. 60 Park.

From budget approvals to bridge completions, parks programs and pipeline contracts, Superior is proving that when we work together, we achieve remarkable things.

Lets keep the momentum going! Together, We are Superior!
