Superior Mayor Mila Besich

As we enter this giving season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible strength and heart of our Superior community.

First and foremost, thank you to our hardworking Town of Superior staff. During these past several weeks of uncertainty with the federal government shutdown and delays in SNAP funding, our team continued to show up with dedication and compassion to serve our residents. Your resilience keeps our community moving forward every single day.

I want to express deep appreciation to the Superior Food Bank and every volunteer, donor, and neighbor who stepped up when many families needed support the most. The generosity we witnessed, from food drives to monetary contributions,  is a reminder that Superior always finds a way to take care of one another. This spirit is who we are.  Please visit the Rebuild Superior Inc. website to learn more about the services of our Superior Food Bank and those of Rebuild Superior Inc.   www.rebuildsuperioraz.org

We also extend our gratitude to the Superior Optimist Club for continuing their tradition of recognizing local champions who make Superior shine. This years Spirit of Optimism Community Champions, Debbie Torres and Billie Jo Villaverde, were honored at our November Council meeting for their outstanding service and dedication. Congratulations to both, and thank you for your leadership and passion for our community.  They will be the grand Marshals for the Miracle on Main Street Parade on Friday, Dec. 12.

Speaking of celebrations, the Town Council approved a funding contract with Resolution Copper to support our Fourth of July Fireworks in 2026. Securing this funding early ensures that on July 4th, 2026, our community will once again gather under the night sky to enjoy a tradition we all love.

As holiday gift-giving begins, I encourage everyone to shop locally. Every dollar spent at our small businesses strengthens Superiors economy, preserves livelihoods, and helps our local entrepreneurs weather these unpredictable times. The best gift we can give our community is the choice to support those who invest in Superior all year long.  If you must purchase gifts and goods outside of Superior, I encourage you to shop online, where your sales tax dollars do return to Superior, which helps us to keep our community functioning.

Finally, I want to thank Senator Mark Kelly and Senator Ruben Gallego for championing our federal appropriations request. Their advocacy has positioned Superior to receive $718,000 for a new fire truck, a critical investment in public safety that will ensure our first responders have the modern equipment they deserve. We are grateful the federal government has reopened so this important funding can continue moving forward.

Thank you, Superior, for embodying community, compassion, and optimism. I am grateful for each of you and look forward to a joyful, generous, and prosperous season ahead.

From my family to yours, we wish you a happy, safe and joyous holiday season.

  With appreciation,

/s/ Mayor Mila Besich
