Mary Xochtil Juvera

  Mary Xochtil Juvera, known for her self-reliance, strong Catholic faith and courage to persevere through adverse life challenges, passed away peacefully in her home on Dec. 13, 2024, at the age of 86.

  Mary will lovingly be remembered by her son, Samuel (Diane) Juvera, their three daughters Graciela, Samantha and Gabriella; Joey (Mandie) Juvera, their two sons Oscar and Harry and previous wife Jami with son Aaron (Stevi) and great-granddaughter Charli and daughters Victoria and Elizabeth (David) Kominsky; David (Patricia) Juvera, son Jonathan great-granddaughter Marisabel and great-grandson Jonathan Jr., daughters Sabrina with great-granddaughters Luna and Isabella; and many others whom affectionately referred to her as Nanna Mary.

  She is preceded in death by her daughter, Monica “Mo” Juvera (deceased March 10, 2015).

  Mary was born in Sonora, AZ on Sept. 6, 1938 to Regino and Maria Munoz, joining three older stepbrothers, Pete, Tony and Richard (Huerta). She was the oldest of five siblings: Abelardo, Gilbert, Velica and Patsy. Upon graduation from Ray High School, Mary went on to earn her cosmetology certification securing a job in Mammoth where she met her husband Joe. Together they raised their children and built a lifetime of memories shared by their families and many in the Tri-Community through their willingness to help others. Joe worked at Magma for most of his life and preceded Mary in death in July 2002. Mary was known to many as the cake lady for many families in the Mammoth community, along with her love for baking and cooking her other interests including traveling, especially in the outdoors, fishing, camping, gardening, pottery, painting, birding and especially her cockatoo Willy!

  Services for Mary were held Dec. 21 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Mammoth. Interment followed at Valley View Cemetery.
