Luis Jesus Diaz Fontes

  Luis Jesus Diaz Fontes passed away on Oct. 21, 2025. He was 92 years old.

  Luis was born on March 2, 1933, in Tucson, Arizona. He was middle child from a family of 16. He graduated from Nogales High School in 1952 and went on to work at Kennecott Copper Mines in Ray, Arizona. He met and married Molly Avenetti shortly after. Luis worked for Kennecott/ASARCO for 45 years as a Truck Mechanic and Supervisor until he retired at the age of 63.

  Luis and Molly married and had six children, and raised four great-grandchildren, Montanna, Molli, Serenity, and Addison. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed watching sports, listening to music and eating good Mexican food. One of his favorite pastimes was enjoying a cup of coffee and eating pandulce with his grandchildren.

  Luis is survived by his wife, Molly (Vera); his children, Louie (Paula), Therese “Sister”, Annette Fontes-Evans (Dave), Loretta, Myra Warren (Norm) and Nathan; sisters, Casilda Fontes, Elias and Laura Fontes; 21 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren (plus 1 on the way), 11 great-great-grandchildren and over 100 nieces and nephews.

  He is preceded in death by his parents, Francisco Fontes and Eduvijes Diaz Fontes, 11 brothers and two sisters, and a grandson, Ezekiel Verdugo (Zeko).

  Services will be held Nov. 8, 2025, at the Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church in Kearny, Arizona. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Mass will be at 11 a.m. followed by interment at the Kearny Cemetery in Kearny, Arizona.
