Both the Tri-Community Food Bank in Mammoth and the Superior Food Bank are preparing for the holiday season, which is right around the calendar corner, including placing notices in the Copper Corridor Community Calendar for volunteers and donations.
The Superior Food Bank has flyers out with a list of foods that they need to build special holiday boxes for both Thanksgiving and Christmas to make sure the families in need get to join in the same joy and tasty treats that the donators enjoy. The list includes shelf-stable mixes and canned goods such as green beans, corn, cornbread, boxed potatoes, gravy mix, French fried onions, sugar cookies and Cream of Mushroom soup. Though they didn’t mention it, it’s a sure guess they would not be upset at sweet potatoes, marshmallow or cranberry sauce being included. They also have an option for those who can’t or just don’t want to shop to sponsor a family’s dinner with a donation of $40.
To make a donation of food items, contact the Superior Food Bank Pantry Manager, Patty Ann Taylor by calling 520-479-4633 or emailing at foodbank@rebuildsuperioraz.org. For a monetary donation by check you can make it payable to Superior Food Bank and mail it to PO Box 171, Superior, AZ 85173.
In Mammoth, located at 108 W. Redwood Drive, the Tri-Community Food Bank is seeking local volunteers who can lift at least 20 pounds and whom are willing to work two or more days a month from 9 a.m. until noon. If you want to volunteer, contact the food bank at 520-487-2010.
The holidays are not the only time volunteers and donations are needed! Though, perhaps, they are the time when the majority of families in need feel that pinch of hunger a little more. There are many ways to provide help. If you can’t do anything else, please share the information in this article with others and let’s get the word out that many of our neighbors are in need, as are the food banks that are striving diligently to provide for them.
