Softball and baseball games typically slow down when schools are on spring break. That was true for the Ray High School teams. The boys were on hiatus.
The Ray softball team had a light schedule last week, with one away game against St. John Paul II Catholic.
The first inning started with the Lady ‘Cats posting three runs while SJPIIC were only able to post one run. By the end of the third inning the game was tied 5-5. The fourth inning began with the girls posting 3 more runs, but it ended with the Lions scoring 6 runs.
The Lady ‘Cats started the fifth inning down by three runs, but brought it to the Lions, posting 12 runs for the inning. They continued the heat in the following inning, posting 6 more runs. The girls showed a tough defense in the fifth and sixth inning, not allowing the Lions to post any runs. The game ended in the Lady ‘Cats favor with a final score of 25-11.
The Hayden boys baseball team started last week off with a home game versus San Tan Foothills on March 15. The tough game ended with a close loss, and a final score of 7-9. On March 17, the baseball and softball teams traveled to Superior to face off against the Panthers. The boys were able to redeem themselves from their previous loss, with a 13-2 victory over Superior. The Lady Lobos were unable to beat the Lady Panthers, and suffered a tough loss of 0-13.
The following day, the Lady Lobos hosted the 29th Annual Hayden Softball Tournament. The girls’ first game of the day was against Globe.The game ended in Globe’s favor with a final score of 5-11.
The second game of the day, the girls faced off against Florence. The girls were able to turn their luck around and came out with a win, beating Florence with a final score of 9-5. Day two started off by the Lady Lobos meeting up with Globe again for a second game. The girls took another loss, with a final score of 3-17. For the second game of the second day, the Lady Lobos met up with Florence once again, but the result of this game was not the same as the last, the final score was 5-12 in Florence’s favor.
Up next for Ray: today the Bearcats and Lady ‘Cats travel to Superior for 4 p.m. games against the Panthers and on Friday, the boys will be on the road again to San Manuel for a 4 p.m. games against the Miners.
Up next for Hayden: the Lady Lobos are on the road today to Santa Cruz Valley for a game with the Dust Devils. On Friday, the Lobos host Lincoln Prep for a 4 p.m. game. On Tuesday, March 29, the teams travel to San Manuel for 4 p.m. games against the Miners.
