Joe Dale Swicegood, 92, of Amarillo, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024.

Joe was born on Sept. 22, 1931, to James and Lora Swicegood in an oil camp near Ponca City, Oklahoma. He married Betty Marie Powell on Feb. 1, 1951, in Bushland, Kansas.

Betty and Joe settled their family in the small mining town of San Manuel, AZ in the early 60s. Originally Joe was the Carnation Dairy milkman, delivering milk and dairy products to homes and businesses in San Manuel, Oracle and Mammoth.  Later, he and Betty owned the Farmers Insurance Agency in San Manuel, working there until their retirement in 1996.

After retirement Joe and Betty made their way to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida to study, work and worship at Christian International under the tutelage of their dear friend, Dr. Bill Hamon, and his wife, Evelyn. Together with Betty, he founded Transform Lives Ministry. Through that work Joe was able to bring hope and healing to a great number of people.

He was a kind and loving father, friend and mentor; never meeting a stranger, Joe could always make someone feel welcome and loved. He was a member of The Loft Church in Amarillo.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Betty Powell; two brothers; two sisters; and a son, Joe Jr.

Survivors include three children; son, Steve Swicegood and wife Connie of Amarillo; and his two daughters, Laura Kingston of Colorado Springs, CO and Barbara Pierson also of Amarillo. Survivors also include eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Celebration of Life services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at Cox-Rowley Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Dr., Amarillo, TX.
