Jesus “Chuy” German Olmos
Jesus “Chuy” Olmos, age 90, passed away peacefully on Feb. 26, 2025, knowing he was loved by his family and friends and believing that our Lord was waiting for him with open arms.
He was born in Riverside, CA on March 20, 1934, to Jesus and Esperanza Olmos. The family moved to Sonora, AZ when he was young so his father could work at the copper mine. Chuy was in high school when his father passed away so he started working at the mine on the evening shift so he could support his younger siblings. He graduated from Ray High School in 1954. He married his beloved wife, Frances “Frankie” Corral, in the summer of 1956. They had two children, Gilbert Michael and Christine. He moved his family to Kearny, AZ in 1965 when the copper mine took over the town of Sonora and everyone had to move.
Chuy worked primarily as an Assayer at Kennecott Copper/ASARCO for 39 years. He was respected for his knowledge of rocks and minerals. He enjoyed his rock collection and said his favorite one was sugar-like druzy. Throughout his life, he enjoyed keeping his yard immaculate, cooking out, tubing down the Gila River, hiking Aravaipa Canyon and attending sporting events. Chuy also loved traveling with Frankie around the U.S. and other countries. He enjoyed snorkeling in the ocean and climbing the pyramids of Mexico. He even got to go up in a hot air balloon.
Chuy was a kind and generous man who helped anyone that needed him. He encouraged his children and grandchildren to go to college and enjoy life to the fullest. One of his biggest gifts to the family was the memories he captured on videos. He loved being the man behind the camera. We have thousands of memories to watch and enjoy.
Chuy is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Betty Romero Mendez. He is survived by his siblings, Aurora “Lola” Verdugo, Ernestina “Tina” Asmussen, Robert “Bobby” Olmos (Maria), Olivia Yanez, Virginia “Ginny” Beck (Ken), Manuel “Sonny” Olmos (Connie), Angelina “Kakie” Gomez (Frank), Erlinda “Linda” Chavez (Freddie), Peter Olmos and Richard Olmos (Sylvia). He also leaves behind his son, Gilbert Michael (Teresa) Olmos; daughter, Christine (Gene) Florez; grandchildren, Judas Olmos, Victor (Lorraine) Florez, Carlos (Claudia) Florez and Alex (Inuka) Florez; and great-grandchildren, Carlos, Mary, Andres, Naomi, Nicolas and Ximena.
