Oracle artist Danielle Neibling
When it comes to art, Oracle artist Danielle Neibling goes big.
Danielle moved to Oracle in 2005 from New York. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts and a Master of Fine Arts from Hunter College both in New York City. She retired from teaching in 2016 and is now painting full time. She works and lives on the old Tom Wilson ranch. Her preferred medium is oil on large canvasses. She works in other mediums and has recently done some charcoal paintings.
Her images are largely pattern oriented and borrow heavily from Muslim motifs, fabrics and carpets. Her Persian rug influenced works usually conjure up a domestic scene such as a pet on a carpet.
“I am interested in the familiarity of the viewer situated in this setting,” she said. “I want the viewer to relate to the odd setting.”
Her paintings verge on being abstract. There are hidden stories in her paintings and one should look closely among the patterns to see them. A reoccurring theme in her art is one of the hunter and the hunted metaphor. She views the nature of humans as being hunters.
“We are predators,” she said.
Danielle Neibling’s art is larger than life.
Some of her art was recently displayed at the 1Art on Broadway gallery in Tucson. Other pieces are on display at Feast, a restaurant at 3719 E. Speedway. She will be part of a show titled “Tacos y Tamales” at the Contreras Gallery & Jewelry, 110 E. 6th Street in Tucson. The show will run from Oct. 6 to the 27.
“The gallery owners, Neda and Michael Contreras are really sweet people,” Danielle said.
She is participating in GLOW and may have some of her paintings in the Barn Gallery at the Triangle L Ranch in Oracle. Beginning Oct. 9, she will have paintings on display at the Oracle Patio Café. She is looking forward to 2019 when she will be in a show about different artists that are related at the Pima College Louis Carlos Burnell Gallery. She will be with her mother, Judy Stewart, a sculptor who also lives in Oracle.
