An unoccupied house on San Pedro Avenue in Hayden was destroyed by fire early Thursday morning.
A house next door was threatened, but the fast action of personnel from Accelerated Construction & Excavating, who were doing water line work in the area, saved the Martinez family and their house. The crew went inside, woke the family and safely help them out.
Billy Schneider, a Town of Hayden Public Works employee, said if it had not been for the fast response of the workers from Accelerated Construction and the Public Works department, the Martinez family might have lost their house and lives.
Schneider, along with others from the Hayden Public Works Department, Bobby Smith, Henry Padilla and Chris Bribiecas, helped control the fire. He said the crew from Accelerated Construction, Foreman Colton, Brian, Dan, Chopo and Vince, were the big heroes.
Accelerated Construction & Excavating had a large full water truck and was able to contain the blaze until Hayden and Winkelman Fire Departments arrived.
