Hayden Winkelman Unified School District proudly unveiled its permanent Veterans Wall of Honor, marking a meaningful milestone in recognizing the service and sacrifice of alumni and local veterans from the community. The dedication was celebrated during a schoolwide assembly attended by all K–12 students, staff, and veterans, bringing the entire district together in gratitude and respect.

The program featured moments of reflection and learning, including the Pledge of Allegiance, student-led presentations highlighting the branches of the military, poetry readings, and demonstrations of respect and courtesy by the student body. Veterans in attendance were formally recognized and invited to stand on stage, where they were met with applause and admiration as the audience proudly sang “I’m Proud to Be an American.”

Principal Pamela Gonzalez shared her appreciation for the significance of the Wall, stating that she was overjoyed knowing it will serve as a lasting reminder of the local men and women who have served and sacrificed for the nation. She emphasized that displaying their names publicly reflects the district’s deep pride and gratitude for their commitment to protecting our freedoms.

Students showed their patriotism throughout the event by waving mini-American flags and wearing red, white, and blue in the form of face paint, tattoos, headbands, and festive attire. The visible enthusiasm underscored the respect and admiration felt across all grade levels.

Following the assembly, veterans were honored with a luncheon prepared by Hayden High School’s Culinary Arts class, where they enjoyed a meal together and shared stories, memories, and reflections on their military service. The time allowed veterans to reconnect, reminisce, and feel the appreciation of the school and community they helped protect.

The Veterans Wall of Honor now stands as a permanent symbol of service, sacrifice, and community pride at Hayden Winkelman Unified School District—ensuring that the legacy of its veterans will be remembered and honored for generations to come.
