The Hayden-Winkelman community came together on Dec. 13 to celebrate and honor one of its own, as longtime football coach John Quesada Estrada was surprised with the renaming of the school’s iconic victory bell. From this day forward, the bell will proudly be known as the John Quesada Estrada Victory Bell.
The announcement followed a historic achievement for Hayden High School athletics. During the Fall 2025 season, Coach Estrada led the Hayden Lobos 1A football team to an unprecedented third consecutive state championship, solidifying his legacy as one of the most influential figures in the program’s history. The victory bell, long a symbol of Lobo pride and triumph, now carries the name of the coach who helped define that tradition.

Athletic Director Lydia Martinez shared words of appreciation during the ceremony.
“Coach Estrada has dedicated many years to this program and to our athletes,” she said. “He has shaped not only winning teams, but strong young men. It was fitting to see the victory bell named in his honor.”
The newly mounted plaque holds special significance beyond the achievement itself. Coach Estrada’s son, Alejandro Estrada, personally welded the piece in honor of his father, making the tribute a true family effort. Additionally, the inclusion of Coach Estrada’s full name recognizes and honors both his father, Joe Estrada, and his late mother, Odelia Quesada Estrada, reflecting the deep family roots and values that have guided him throughout his life and career.

Coach Estrada was joined on this meaningful day by his wife Shirlene Estrada, his father Joe Estrada, his siblings, children, and grandchildren—each sharing in the pride of a moment that celebrated not only championships, but commitment, family, and community.
As the John Quesada Estrada Victory Bell continues to ring on Friday nights, it will stand as a lasting reminder of excellence, perseverance, and the powerful legacy of a coach who gave so much to Hayden High School and the Hayden-Winkelman community.
