Last week was a busy time on the diamond for the Copper Area schools.

Hayden Lobos

  The Lady Lobos softball team started last week with an away game at San Simon. The girls put up a fight against Longhorns, and were able to come out victorious, with a 14-point difference. The final score of the game sat at 25-11.

  Closing out their week, the Lady Lobos hosted Ray. The game started in Hayden’s favor, with the first inning sitting at 6-3. It wasn’t until the fourth inning when Ray pulled ahead with a 10-run inning. The Lady Lobos struggled to catch back up, and suffered a 13-18 loss.

  The Lobos baseball team began last week with an away game at Superior. The game started with a stalemate for the first two innings. Superior scored the first run during the third inning. The Lobos were able to score 1 run in the fifth inning. The score sat at 1-1 until the seventh inning when the Lobos scored 2 runs putting them in the lead, and giving them the win, with a final score of 3-1.

  Later in the week, the Lobos traveled to take on Morenci. The first run wasn’t scored until the third inning, when the Lobos scored 3 runs. The boys were able to keep that lead throughout the rest of the game. It closed out with a Lobos win and a final score of 12-3.

  Closing out their week, Hayden hosted Ray. The Lobos started off strong, and only let one run slip past them. The game ended in the fifth inning with a final score of 19-1.

  Hayden travelled to San Manuel Tuesday to take on the Miners. Results were unavailable at press time.

San Manuel Miners

  The Lady Miners softball team kept it light on the diamond last week with a double header against Mogollon. The first game saw the Lady Miners battle for control of the game, but during the fifth inning, the Lady Mustangs pulled ahead. The first game ended with a final score of 10-22. The second game started with the Lady Miners taking the lead, but losing it in the second inning. The girls were not able to close the gap, resulting in a 8-12 loss.

  The Miners baseball team were busy on the field last week. Their week began with an away game against St. Johns. Both teams battled for control, during the bottom of the third the score sat at 5-5. The fourth inning saw St. Johns push into the lead. The Miners continued to fight, but fell short, with a final score of 7-11.

  The next day, the boys hosted Valley Lutheran. The Miners kept control during the game, resulting in a 18-7 victory over the Flames. The boys closed out their week with a double header against Mogollon. Fighting hard during both games, the Miners fell short, with final scores of 4-12 and 3-11.

Ray Bearcats

  It was a good week for the Ray softball team, starting last week off with an away game against Desert Heights Prep. The Lady ‘Cats shutout the Coyotes, with a final score of 18-0.

  On Friday, the girls traveled to Hayden. The Lady ‘Cats fought for control of the game, and were able to gain it in the fourth inning. The girls closed out with an 18-13 victory over the Lady Lobos. The girls closed out their week with a Saturday home game against San Simon. The girls only let the Longhorns score 2 runs, while they were able to bring in multiple runs. The game ended with a Lady ‘Cats victory and a final score of 17-2.

  The Bearcats baseball team started their week off with an away game against Desert Heights Prep. The game started with a 1-1 first inning, followed by both teams battling for dominance. Going into extra innings, both teams couldn’t break each other, resulting in a tied 7-7 game.

  Closing out their week, the Bearcats traveled to Hayden. The boys struggled to bring runners home, only getting 1 run. The game concluded with a tough loss and a final score of 1-19.

  The teams hosted Miami on Tuesday. Results from those games were unavailable at press time.

Superior Panthers

  The Panthers baseball team kept themselves busy last week. Their week began with a home game against Hayden. The boys put up a tough fight, but were unable to beat the Lobos, resulting in a tough 1-3 loss.

  Later in the week, the Panthers traveled to play Maryvale Prep. The boys kept control during the game, and beat the Matadors. The final score of the game sat at 19-3. The boys closed out their week with an away game against Lincoln Prep. It was a tough time on the diamond for the Panthers, who were unable to find a run. The final score of the game was 0-7.
