The Hayden football team faced off against Cicero Prep on Friday, Sept. 17, and did the Lobos ever put up a show for their hometown audience, shutting them out 44-0.

Jando Lorona started the game returning the opening kick for a 78-yard touchdown. Mory Cruz started at Quarterback, giving the Lobos 100 yards of rushing, 105 yards of passing, and totaling 4 touchdowns. Brandon Garner Jr. did work on both sides during the game: 3 catches for 100 yards and 3 touchdowns. On defense Garner had 8 tackles, 1 assist, and 3 interceptions.

“Our team did great despite the circumstances they faced, I am proud of all of them,” commented coach Armand Cruz. “We are expecting a tough game from Tempe Prep, they are a passing team, and we will need to be ready.”

The Lobos will host the Tempe Prep Knights on Friday, Sept. 24, at the high-school football field, with a kick-off time set for 7 p.m. Expect another show, folks. This game is Hayden’s Homecoming and the team has something to prove (even if it’s just to COVID-19 for cancelling last year’s Homecoming).

This year’s Homecoming Royalty will be crowned at halftime.
