On March 1, a new business launched in Oracle, Dorcas Creations.

Located at 620 E. American Ave., Unit D, the business is owned, operated and supplied entirely by Mammoth resident Giulia Lewis.

The inspiration for Dorcas Creations came about last year with a used sewing machine and a lot of trial and error, as Giulia taught herself to sew, with much encouragement from friends and family during recovery from a double-knee surgery.

“Although I had tried to sew many years before,” she said, “I was wildly unsuccessful and gave up quickly, but now I was able to sew and actually became quite good at it in a very short time.  I believe that my success has been divinely inspired and drove my decision to name the business Dorcas Creations.”

Dorcas is the Greek name of Tabitha, who was a well-known and respected disciple of Jesus Christ. She was known for her skilled work as a seamstress as well as her generosity. Her story is in the book of Acts, Chapter 9, verses 36 through 42.

The business offers all handmade items from fabric baskets and bookmarks to scrunchies, keychains and lip balm carriers. She has pillows and some amazing quilts and so many more handmade items. Prices range from $2.50 for scrunchies up to $150 for a quilt.

Giulia added, “I am thankful and grateful to the community for the support they have gave me.”

The store is open Tuesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday 12-8 p.m., Thursday 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can reach Giulia by email at DorcasCreations@yahoo.com or through her Facebook page: Dorcas.creations.2024. Why not give her a follow as well?
