Georgie Digs!
I again have been reading my Georgie Digs article, “My Collections of Writings” that mentions the 22 typed pages with the title of “Early Pioneers Of The San Pedro River Valley” that was written in 1994 by Albert C. Bittick, Jr. I really enjoy the first part that was narrated by his father Albert Crittendon Bittick, Sr. who had been born in 1859 in California, and that narration contains the interesting events that had taken place before and during his father’s trip to Arizona in 1876. I also enjoy it because it not only mentions some of the earlier people who lived along the San Pedro River, but also in other areas. Names mentioned were Clark and Verdugo of Mammoth, also Putnam who had a store in Mammoth and a homestead up Putnam Wash. Also mentioned was Henry H. Young, Hannah Selleck, and Hannah’s daughter Jennie M. Selleck who married Albert C. Bittick, Sr. when she was eighteen years old and he was forty-five years old. Also mentioned was Frank Pool who had the lumber yard in Winkelman, the Winkelman stores of the Quarellis, Giorsettis, Giffin, Bill Kutsky, Tisher, and the Ortiz brothers, Blind Johnson, Apsey, and Henry Towner. There are more.
A grandson of Albert C. Bittick, Jr. recently shared with me the online history of the Bitticks that is named “Show Me The Bitticks”. It contains lots of Bittick genealogy, that was arranged by Mary Bittick Gallano and Ronda J. Snider. Two online histories that I have had on my favorite list for quite a while are “Contributions from Ken Shake – Ray, Sonora, Arizona” and “Az. Backcountry Adventures ” by Ernie Parks. Ken Shake included the history of his father, Max M. Shake, while working at Ray Mine, maps, Ken’s life as a kid, graduating classes, links, and index of contributors. Ernie Parks’ history includes the numerous trips taken, family excursions, Parks Family History, and Traveling Partners. So very interesting are the pictures included in these online histories which can be found by Google searching their titles on the computer.
