Three Copper Corridor football teams posted wins this week with one team coming up on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

The Hayden Lobos hosted the Lincoln Prep Lightning last week.

Coming out strong, in true Lobo fashion, the boys were able to score 24 points in the first quarter, while keeping Lincoln Preps offense locked down. By halftime, the Lobos were up 51-0, showing the discipline on both sides of the ball. Eventually, the Lightning was able to break through Hayden’s defense, and by the end of the game, the score sat at 57-14. The Lobos claimed another victory.

The Lobos are ranked #1 in the 1A East Region, with Maxpreps ranking them #1 in Arizona for 1A eight-man football, with a ranking of #29 in the nation for eight-man football.

The boys will travel to Williams on Saturday, Sept. 28, for a 4 p.m. game. Hit ’em hard, Lobos!

Ray Bearcats

The Bearcats took the field last Friday, Sept. 20, ready to face off against the Baboquivari Warriors. Coming off of two tough away game losses against St. David and Valley Union, the boys were back under the lights of their home field.

The boys came out ready to fight for the win, and that is what they did. The boys closed out the night with a Bearcat victory over the Warriors. The final score of the game was 40-22.

The boys will host Fort Thomas on Friday, Sept. 27, with a kickoff time of 7 p.m. for the Ray High School Homecoming Game. Come out and support the Bearcats!

Superior Panthers

The Superior football team traveled to take on Fort Thomas last Friday. The Panthers came out ready to play some ball.

In the first quarter, both teams were able to score a touchdown, but in the second quarter the Panthers picked up the pace, scoring 22 more points, making it 28-6 by halftime.

The boys came out ready to play the second half, scoring 16 points in the third quarter, while only giving up 8. In the fourth quarter, the Panthers held tight, scoring a touchdown, but allowing Fort Thomas to score one, and a 2-point conversion. The game ended in the Panthers’ favor, giving them a 50-22 victory over the Apaches.

The Panthers will host Lincoln Prep on Friday, Sept. 27, with a kickoff time scheduled for 7 p.m. for the Superior High School Homecoming Game. Be sure to come out and support the boys!

San Manuel Miners

The San Manuel football team traveled to Valley Union last Friday to take on the Blue Devils. It was a tough game for the boys, who had a hard time stopping Valley Union’s offense.

The Miners’ offense played tough as well but they weren’t able to break through the Blue Devils’ offense as much. In the end, the boys fell short and were unable to collect the victory. The final score of the game sat at 20-52, putting the Miners at a 1-4 record so far this season. The Miners are ranked #6 in the 1A South Region.
