CASA of Gila County

The Arizona Department of Education will present Educational Rights of Students in Foster Care.

This training will be held on Feb. 28, 2020, 10 a.m. to noon, at High Desert Middle School, 4000 High Desert Dr., Globe, AZ 85501. Registration is free and open to the public.

Presenters, Joey Taylor and Amanda Glass, coordinators with the Department of Education, explain that in order to make school stability for students in foster care a reality, it will require the collaboration of the child welfare agency, the school, the caregiver, the bio family, the courts, and anyone invested in lives of these students. Participants will learn the role of all parties involved and how to best advocate for students in foster care. Students in foster care often require special education services from the school. It is important that those who support students in foster care understand the special education process. Information on IEPs, special education protections, dispute resolution, due process, amongst other topics will be provided.

This training is hosted by CASA of Gila County. Please reserve your place by sending an email to Emily Nader at enader@courts.az.gov or call (928) 402-4427.
