
Eugenio ‘Gene’ G. Gonzalez
Eugenio “Gene” G. Gonzalez, 82, of Hayden, passed away peacefully in the late evening hours of Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, surrounded by family. Gene was born in Hayden (San Pedro) on March 30, 1942, to Eugenio and Angelita Gonzalez.
Gene grew up in the barrio of Lower San Pedro Rd. He was an active Hayden Lobo supporter and enjoyed watching football, basketball, and softball. Gene was a huge Arizona Wildcats and Kansas City Chiefs fan. He was a hunter, bowler, little league president, and a devoted Catholic.
In the 11th grade, Gene left Hayden High School to support his mother, Angelita. He worked at Kennecott Copper/ASARCO for 36 years and took early retirement at the age of 55. In his spare time, he stayed busy taking on his Tio responsibilities like babysitting and helping his family whenever needed.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Eugenio and Angelita; his siblings, Cruz, Paz, Joaquin, Frank, Juanita, Margaret, Pauline, Tony and Joe; as well as his beloved nephew, Jaime. He is survived by his sisters, Velia and Angelita, along with his many nieces and nephews.
Gene’s cheerful spirit, fun-loving nature, and unforgettable humor will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hayden. Funeral services will begin with visitation at 9 a.m., Rosary at 9:30 a.m., and Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Hayden.
