  The 2019 Valedictorian of San Manuel High School,  Darien Apuron, in her role on the swim team, has been accepted to the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association of America, Inc.  All America Academic team. 

  In an email to both Apuron and Coach Alex Gort, Marney Shirley, Academic All America Chair, wrote, “Over 342,294 students are involved in aquatics at the high school level in over 16,432 programs for boys’ and girls’.  Approximately 2% of these students are recognized as high school All American’s.”
  Shirley continued, “On behalf of the NISCA leadership, I extend to you our most sincere congratulations and best wishes for continued success.You truly do make a difference in the lives of young people.”

  Shortly before being named All American Academic, Darien was awarded the Marine Scholar Award. Her grandfather, MGySgt. Jean G. Gonneville (retired) was on hand to see her receive the award. Presenting the award was SSgt. Christopher M. Pou.
