Daniel R. “Beets” Romero

With hearts full of love and gratitude, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Daniel R. “Beets” Romero, on Friday, May 16, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family. Though his time on earth has come to an end, his warmth, laughter, and unwavering love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

Born in Superior, Arizona on July 21, 1938, to Ernesto and Armida Miranda Romero. Danny was the 11th of 13 children in a close-knit family. From a young age, he shined brightly—an outstanding athlete in both football and basketball, proudly representing the Superior Panthers. Though he was offered several athletic scholarships, Danny followed his heart and lifelong dream of becoming a miner, beginning his career at Magma Copper as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Operator.

He later served his community with strength and compassion as a Correctional Officer III at both the AZ State prison and the private prison of CCA in Florence, AZ and here in Globe when it was a juvenile detention center and later an adult State prison.  Through every chapter of his life, Danny carried himself with humility, quiet strength, and a deeply rooted kindness that touched everyone he met.

Danny’s faith in God was steadfast and sincere. Though he did not follow organized religion, his life was a testament to grace, goodness, and open-hearted love. He embraced all with compassion — never judging, always welcoming. To many, he wasn’t just “Tata,” he was their Tata — an anchor, a storyteller, a protector, and a gentle teacher of life’s simple joys.

He found peace in nature, whether deer hunting, chopping wood, or cooking breakfast in the mountains with “the gang.” His joy was greatest when surrounded by family and friends, sharing meals, laughter, and stories. He was patient with every living creature and had a heart that made room for all.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto and Armida Romero; beloved children, Danny Jr., Rachel, Elaine, and Lisa Romero; grandson, John “Bean” Carrasco; and dear siblings, Sal Ruiz, Gusti Romero, Sophie Carrizosa, Lucy Ruiz, Art Romero, Arturo “Pungas” Romero, Ernesto Romero, Raul Romero, and Beatrice “Tuca” Arvizu. He also mourned the loss of many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Annie Alvarez Romero; loving daughters, Rosanna Romero, Stephanie Avalos and Jennifer Romero; along with eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy. He is also survived by his beautiful sisters, Mary Lou Mendoza, Roxanna Cota, and Minnie Denogean; and numerous nieces and nephews dear to his heart.

Our deepest thanks go to those who walked beside us in this journey: the compassionate staff of Dr. Joseph Ring, Dr. Karen Gremminger, Dr. Mazhar, Interim HealthCare, Billett Home Healthcare and Thema Hospice. To our extended family and friends — your love, prayers, and support have lifted us, and we will never forget your kindness.

We take comfort in knowing that Tata is now at peace, reunited with our creator and the loved ones who went before him. His soul, so full of love and faith, now rests in the arms of God.

Until we meet again, Dad… Tata… Danny….we will see you when we see you.
