All four schools in the Copper Corridor have been giving it the “full court press” now that the season is up and running.
Superior
It was a busy time on the court last week for the Lady Panthers. They started their week with a home game against Valley Lutheran. The girls put up a fight, and claimed the victory, with a final score of 36-16.
Noelle Duarte led the team with 25 points, Stephanie Lopez scored 6 points, Barbie Ybarra scored 4 points, and Rose Tomerlin scored 1 point.
The Lady Panthers closed out their week with an away game at Duncan. The Lady Panthers struggled to get the edge on Duncan, and were only able to score 15 points. The game ended with a final score of 15-46, making it a tough loss for the girls.

The boys basketball team had the same busy schedule last week, starting their week off with a home game against Valley Lutheran. The first quarter of the game saw the Panthers struggle to stop Valley Lutheran. The score of the first quarter was 2-24. The boys picked it up during the second quarter, scoring 17 points. At halftime the score sat at 19-32. For the rest of the game the Panthers tried to keep up, but in the end the score sat at 38-66 in Valley Lutheran’s favor.
Closing out their week, the boys traveled to Duncan. The Panthers came out strong during the first quarter, scoring 12 points to Duncans 9. Both teams scored 11 points during the second quarter, putting the score at 23-20. During the third quarter, Duncan out-scored the Panthers, and tied the score 28-28. The boys struggled to hold back Duncan during the fourth quarter. The Panthers scored 13 points, while Duncan scored 20 points. The final score of the game sat at 41-48, making it a tough loss for the Panthers.
The Panthers and Lady Panthers hosted Hayden on Dec. 9, and will travel to San Manuel on Dec. 10. The girls will start at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.
Ray
The Lady ‘Cats kicked off last week with a home game against Valley Union. The first quarter started out with the girls scoring 9 points, while the Blue Devils scored 12. The girls struggled to fend off Valley Union and by halftime the score sat at 12-24. Coming out of during the second half the Lady ‘Cats continued to struggle holding back Valley Union. The game ended with a tough loss and final score of 22-54.
The Bearcats also hosted Valley Union to start last week. The boys came out strong, scoring 18 points during the first quarter, and giving up 12 points. The boys continued to push the pace, and by halftime the score sat at 34-26. The Bearcats continued to play hard during the second half, scoring 26 points during the third quarter. The game ended with a final score of 79-48, making it a Bearcat victory.
Chase Chester lead the team scoring 28 points Seth Wade scored 17 points, Jesse James scored 13 points.
Both the Lady ‘Cats and Bearcats closed out their week competing in the Coach Edgar Brown Holiday Basketball Tournament. No results are available at press time.
It will be a busy week for both teams: Dec. 10, they will host San Simon; on Dec. 12, they will travel to Valley Lutheran; and on Saturday, Dec. 13, they will host Meyer. The girls’ games are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the boys are at 7 p.m. The Saturday girls’ game will start at 2:30 p.m. and the boys will start at 4 p.m.
San Manuel
The Lady Miners started last week with an away game at Hayden. The girls spent the first quarter playing a close game, but during the second quarter Hayden created a score gap. At halftime the score sat at 16-26. The girls tried to keep up with the Lobos, but in the end fell short with a final score of 26-49.
The girls closed out their week with an away game against Santa Cruz. The girls put up a tough fight and found the win with a final score of 48-32.
The Miners also started their week with an away game at Hayden. The boys played a tough game, but were unable to outrun the Lobos. The score sat at 17-29 by halftime. Coming out for the second half, the Miners tried to keep up with Hayden. The final score of the game sat at 41-64.
The boys closed out their week traveling to Santa Cruz. The Miners struggled to find their stride, and suffered a tough loss of 29-56.
It will be a busy week for the Miners and Lady Miners. Tuesday, they were at Baboquivari. On Dec. 10, they host Superior; and on Dec. 11, they will host ASDB. Girls’ games will begin at 5:30 p.m. and boys’ games will start at 7 p.m. The boys will close their week out competing in the Copper Cities Tournament at Globe on Dec. 12.

Hayden
The Lady Lobos opened their basketball season last week, hosting San Manuel. The girls came in ready to play, and were the ones who scored first. The first quarter ended with a 10-8 score. During the second quarter, the Lady Lobos created a score-gap and by halftime the score sat at 26-16. During the second half the girls continued to play strong, and claimed the win with a final score of 49-26.
The girls closed their week with a home game against Dischii’bikoh. The Lady Lobos had a tough time scoring during this game, and also struggled to keep the Wildcats off the hoop. The final score of the game sat at 14-45.
The Lobos also opened their season with a home game against San Manuel. The boys came out ready to play, scoring 19 points during the first quarter. At halftime the score sat at 29-17. The boys came back out and continued to play a tough game, claiming the win with a final score of 64-41.
The Lobos closed out their week with a home game against Dischii’bikoh. The Lobos played a close game against the Wildcats. The boys were able to claim the win with the score of 55-53.
On Dec. 9, the Lady Lobos and Lobos traveled to Superior. Information on this game was unavailable at press time. On Dec. 11, both teams will travel to Patagonia Union. The girls’ games will start at 5:30 p.m. and the boys will start at 7 p.m.
