There were some close losses and big wins on the courts this week for Copper Corridor basketball as they head into the second half of the season.
Hayden
The Lady Lobos had a busy return to the court last week. The girls kicked their week off with an away game at Fort Thomas. The girls had a tough time getting the lead on Fort Thomas, by halftime the score sat at 12-41. After the half, the Lady Lobos tried to keep up, but could not. The final score of the game sat at 23-69.
On Friday, the girls traveled to take on the Gregory School. Once again, the Lady Lobos had a tough first half, getting points on the board, but not as much as the Hawks. The score sat at 10-31 by halftime. The girls came out during the second half, scoring 10 points during the third quarter and giving up 12. In the end, the girls once again fell short, with a final score of 31-47.
The Lady Lobos closed out their week with a Saturday away game at San Simon. It was another tough loss for the girls, with a final score of 27-40.
The Lobos boys basketball team competed in Epic Tourneys New Years Classic during the first week of January. During the first day the boys won 57-53 over Horizon Honors, and the second day suffered a loss of 55-67 against Glendale Prep Academy.
Last week, the boys kept busy with away games. Starting the week, the boys played against Fort Thomas. The boys tried to keep it close, and by halftime the score at 34-41. The boys continued to play a close game, but in the end fell short, with a final score of 68-85.
On Friday, the boys played at the Gregory School. The Lobos tried to keep up with the Hawks, but fell short in the first half, with a score of 24-37. They came back with a good second half, but were unable to close the score gap. The final score of the game was 58-63.
The boys closed out their week with on a high, with a Saturday game at San Simon. The Lobos walked away with the win and a final score of 60-32.
Ray
The Lady ‘Cats competed in Epic Tourneys New Years Classic during the first week on January. Their results were: 25-43 loss to Shadow Mountain, 27-33 loss to Chandler Prep, 33-36 loss to Superior, 37-48 loss to ALA Ironwood.
The girls hosted Cicero Prep on Friday last week. The Lady ‘Cats played a tough game but fell short in the end, with a final score of 29-35. The girls played a Saturday game at San Miguel. It was a big win for the girls, who claimed the win with a 61-13 final score.
The Bearcats basketball team started last week with an away game at PDSD. The boys were able to claim the win, outscoring their opponent by 49 points. The final score of the game sat at 71-22.
On Friday, the boys hosted Cicero Prep. The Bearcats put up a fight, but in the end fell short. The final score of the game was 51-72.
The boys closed out their week with an away game at San Miguel. The Bearcats played a close and tough game. The boys were able to claim the win in a close 75-73.
San Manuel
The Lady Miners kept it light on the court as they returned from holiday break. The girls traveled to St. Augustine to take on the Wolves. The Lady Miners had a tough time keeping St. Augustine out of the basket. The final score of the game sat at a tough 11-44.
The Miners also kept it light on the court last week. They traveled to St. Augustine for a Friday game. The first quarter of the game both teams scored 10 points. During the second quarter, the boys had a hard time stopping the Wolves. At halftime the score sat at 19-34. The boys tried to keep up during the second half, but fell short. The final score of the game sat at 45-80.
Superior
The Lady Panthers kept it light on the court last week. The girls hosted Duncan for their only game of the week. The Lady Panthers struggled to break past Duncan’s defense. In the end the girls fell short, with a final score of 9-39.
The boys also played against Duncan to start the week. The boys played it close during the game, but fell short by a few points, suffering a 41-52 loss.
The Panthers closed out their week with an away game against Patagonia Union. The boys put up a fight, but in the end fell short by 5 points. The final score of the game sat at 50-55.
