Over the weekend, San Manuel played host to the annual Copper Classic dirt bike races hosted by The Trail Riders of Southern Arizona, and sponsored by AMRA, AMA, Alexandra L. Miller CPA, GR Financial Group, Stamback Services, Oro Valley Automotive, and AWP Safety.

As usual, the former Gardner Middle School became the home base for the event, as well as the campsite for those riders who wished to stay overnight.

The races kicked off at 8:30 a.m. with the kids mini bike races and the big bike races starting at noon. There were more than 100 racers competing in the race. The loud roars of the bike engines were consistent as multiple heats of the race took off one after another. Dirt and dust flew as multiple riders poured out of Gardener’s field and made their way onto the race trail.

The San Manuel Little League was in attendance fundraising by selling breakfast to hungry people at the event.

The results of the races were not available at press time.
