Clara Espitia Tafoya

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Clara Espitia Tafoya, who left this world on Oct. 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Prescott, Arizona, Clara was the cherished daughter of Jose M. Espitia and Nicandra Hernandez. She was a beloved sister to her five brothers, all of whom have preceded her in death, and to her eight sisters, including Jessie Pablano and Mercy Laura, who continue to honor her memory.

Clara’s journey through life was marked by love and devotion. She met her husband, Cecilio Tafoya, and they were united in marriage on Aug. 17, 1955, in Prescott. Together, they built a beautiful life in San Manuel, Arizona, where they raised their six children, Cecilio John, who sadly passed away on April 23, 2023, and her four daughters, Linda, Phyllis, Carol, Patty and James. Clara’s love for her family was boundless, extending to her 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Clara was known for her warmth, kindness, and culinary talents. Her famous sugar cookies, lovingly baked for every holiday, and her renowned tamales made her a beloved figure in the Tri-Community. Clara’s kitchen was a gathering place, filled with laughter, stories, and the delicious aromas of her cooking, creating cherished memories for all who were fortunate enough to share in her hospitality.

Clara’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and family. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will carry forward her traditions and the values she instilled in them.

A celebration of Clara’s life was held on Nov. 1, 2025, at Vistoso Funeral Home. She was laid to rest at Valley View Cemetery in Mammoth.

In this time of sorrow, let us remember Clara for the love she shared, the joy she brought, and the legacy she leaves behind. May she rest in peace.
