Over Labor Day weekend in 2018, a flash flood raged through Queen Creek, taking a mid-size Hyundai sedan and its owner on a crazy ride down the creek from the Panther Drive crossing. The driver was safely rescued but removing the car from the creek was deemed almost impossible.
After touring the creek during a meeting on invasive species removal and watershed management, Queen Valley resident, Bruce Wittig saw the need to remove the car from the creek. He has some experience in off road vehicle removal and brought together resources to remove the car from the creek. With the help of Arizona’s Off Road Rescue and Towing the car was removed and is no longer sitting in the creek.
The Town of Superior will be arranging for the car to go to salvage. The final segment of the Legends of Superior Trail will be constructed through that area. The trail is being constructed by Americorps National Conservation Crew Southwest with direction from Flagline Trails.
