The Gold Canyon Garden Club in conjunction with the Boyce Thompson Arboretum celebrated Veterans Day by dedicating and unveiling the 20th Blue Star Memorial in Arizona.

Blue Star Memorials began during World War II when 8,000 dogwood trees were planted as a living to memorial to all who served in the war.   The Blue Star Memorial at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum is one of four memorials in Pinal County.

The dedication ceremony included a speech from Mayor Mila Besich, prayers by Minister Miquel Hernandez, a Military Tribute by Richard Gibson, and Boyce Thompson Arboretum Executive Director Lynne Nemeth sang America the Beautiful.  The colors and military honors were presented by Honor Guard American Legion Post #27 with musical support from the “Worlds Smallest Quartet”.

The memorial is located at the west end of the parking lot of the Boyce Thompson Arboretum.  Admission is not required to view the memorial.
