Football and volleyball have ended and now it’s time for the cagers to shine.
Superior, Ray and San Manuel open their winter seasons this week.
Superior
The Lady Panthers and Panthers are preparing for a busy opening week on the basketball court. Leading the girls’ basketball team will be head coach Manuel Ortega. Coaching the boys’ basketball team will be Mario Lopez.
Both teams will have their season opener at Globe on Wednesday, Nov. 20. They will then host Apache Junction on Nov. 21, with the girls’ game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m. Both teams will then host Duncan the following day, Friday, Nov. 22, with the girls scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.

Ray
The Ray boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are about to start their 2024-2025 season. Coaching the Bearcats will be Jonathan Archuleta, while Vanessa Camacho will be coaching the Lady ‘Cats.
Both teams will host Valley Union as their season opener, on Friday, Nov. 22. The girls will start at 5:30 p.m., with the boys starting at 7 p.m. The following day, both teams will travel to San Simon for Saturday games.

San Manuel
The San Manuel boys’ basketball team is preparing to take the court. Coaching the team this season will be Bill Smith. The Miners basketball team for the 2024-2025 season will include: Freshmen, Giorgio Carillo, Alina Lopez, Steven “Lucas” Pelfry, Michael Desantiago-Holly and Omar Urbalejo; Sophomores, Santiago Pinedo, Marcello Baeza and Jamie Dickson; Junior, Marcos Smith; and Seniors, David Valencia, Joshua St. Jeor, Brayden Martinez, Dominic Rodriguez and Carlos Gallego.
The boys will kick off their season with a home game against St. Augustine on Friday, Nov. 22, with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
The Lady Miners basketball team is also gearing up to take the court and start their 2024-2025 season. Coaching the Lady Miners will be head coach Angela Sierra Gillies with assistant coach Samantha Waddell. The Lady Miners basketball team for the 2024-2025 season will include: Freshman, Jasmine Gonzales; Sophomores, Malaya Rodriguez and Alonnie Zazueta; Junior, Cienna Maghinay; and Seniors, Pasha Jenkins, Jocelyn Romero and Gyannah Madrid.
The Lady Miners will also start their season with a home game against St. Augustine, Friday, Nov. 22, with a 5:30 p.m. start time.
