I was honored to have received the “2025 Spirit of Service Award” from the Town of Superior, for my dedication and service to the Senior Citizen Community. I was very surprised because this reward belongs to the donors who give so generously. I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without all the support.

I was born and raised in Superior and graduated from Superior High School in 1981. I worked for the Town of Superior in the 80s as a dispatcher, then the Children’s Librarian. I also volunteered to teach the four-year-olds in the library basement before marrying and moving to Mesa in 1988. I live in Mesa, but my “heart” belongs to Superior.

In 2015, I worked for the local hospice in “Community Relations”.  I networked with all the businesses and people within the community. We held blood pressure clinics and shared resources to help the elderly. We began hosting the Christmas Party at the center. When the hospice closed, I continued to host the Christmas Party and Valentine’s Day Party.

I network with my friends asking for help to hold these parties. The donations come from Washington to Florida, New Hampshire to California and a lot of states in between. Even as far as Guam. Boxes of slippers, blankets, cookies, pajamas and other items are sent to my house. I receive packages all year round. I have a fourth bedroom in my house dedicated to the Superior Senior Citizens.

I’m so grateful to all. It really takes a village. I turn my house into Santa’s Workshop for about a month and invite all the “Elves” to come wrap presents for a couple of weekends. We give gifts to over 200 Community members. Some have shared that if they didn’t get the gift box, we give them, they wouldn’t have received anything at all. It makes me happy to see them happy.

Many thanks to my husband who is my biggest financial contributor; SHS Class of 1981 who always answer the call; The Save Money Market, The VFW #3584, The Superior Chamber of Commerce, Los Hermanos, The Buckboard, Jalapenos, DeMarco’s, The Gypsy Sisters, Edwardo’s Pizza,  Picket Post Antiques, Random Boutique, BMO Bank, Felicia’s Ice Cream Shop, Rose’s Roses, Untangled Hair, Bruzzi’s Vinyard, Brick House Bakers, Juan’s Bakery, Nini Cakes, The Cookie Monsters,  DJ Marky Mark of Sophisticated DJ’s, Debbie V Torres for capturing all the events and of course the “Town of Superior” for allowing me to hold three events a month at the Senior Center and the parties. If I forgot anyone, I apologize.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!! God Bless all of us.

Reach out if you’d like to help! Forever grateful!
