The current COVID-19 pandemic is changing how folks celebrate events, many moving into “virtual reality.”

National Prevention Week is no different. Arizona Youth Partnership and the Copper Corridor Coalition are joining forces with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to celebrate National Prevention Week, May 10-16.

The local coalition is inviting young people to participate in three virtual events: video challenge; art of prevention; and a virtual walk.

AZYP and the Copper Corridor Coalition is hosting a video challenge. This is your chance to spread a positive, 15-60 second media message. What can you do to prevent underage drinking or marijuana and other substance abuse issues? Selected videos will be showcased on the Copper Corridor Coalition Facebook page. Remember to use #preventionhappenshere. Upload your video at www.azyp.org/preventionweek and submit it by Saturday, May 16.

AZYP and the Copper Corridor Coalition want to see your Art of Prevention. The art contest is open to youth between the ages of 5 and 18. The winners will be placed on the 2021 Copper Corridor Coalition Calendar and will be showcased on the coalition’s Facebook page. Remember to use #preventionhappenshere. Submit your art at www.azyp.org/preventionweek and submit it by Saturday, May 16.

Let’s all take a walk – a walk of hope and prevention. Mark your calendars, get out your walking shoes and dust off those walking sticks. AZYP will be hosting a virtual walk during the week of May 10-16. Always practicing social distancing, get your family out and take a walk. Take some photos of your walk and share them at www.azyp.org/preventionweek and submit it by Saturday, May 16. Remember to use #preventionhappenshere.
