
Amalia Manriquez Verdugo
Amalia Manriquez Verdugo passed away peacefully at the age of 95 years old, surrounded by her family, on Nov. 18, 2025, in Gilbert, Arizona.
Amalia was born in Sinaloa, Mexico on July 10, 1930, to her father, Apolinar Manriquez Aguilera, and mother, Petra Viera Manriquez. She married Claudio Acuna Verdugo of Hayden, Arizona, in 1956, and they shared 42 years of marriage before his passing in November 1998.
She was the cherished matriarch of the family and led with love and grace. She loved cooking with her family and was the family seamstress. She spent every morning in prayer. Her kitchen and house were always filled with laughter, singing, and joy. Amalia’s love was unending, and her home was a welcoming sanctuary to everyone. She spent her final moments speaking of her love and devotion to Christ, a testament to her lifelong faith in Jesus and the Holy Mother.
Amalia is survived by her six children, Sandra Verdugo Estrada, Imelda Verdugo, Margarita Verdugo, Veronica Verdugo Chambers, Angelina Verdugo Ruiz (Lionel), and Claudio Ramon Verdugo (Flor). She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and her beloved extended family, whom she loved as her own.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hayden, Arizona. The viewing will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the Rosary at 9:30 a.m., and the Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will take place afterward at Mountain View Cemetery in Hayden, Arizona. A luncheon will be held at the Hayden Golf Course clubhouse following the burial.
