Family, friends, coworkers and many members of the community he served were on hand to wish San Manuel Fire Chief John C. Stanford well in his retirement after 49 years of dedicated service.

Many in attendance spoke on John’s behalf. There was some good-natured roasting as well as sincere appreciation for all he has done during his distinguished career. Over the past 49 years, John has seen the fire department go from being part of the Magma Copper Company, BHP, a fire association to the fire district it is today. John has been instrumental in the success of the San Manuel Fire Department.

Several firefighters expressed their admiration and appreciation for the training they received over the years thanks to John and his training process. Terms like “giving me a passion for firefighting” and “making me feel like being part of a family” were expressed by many. More than one acknowledged being proud to be part of answering the first responder calling and being part of the family process that John fostered so well.

John expressed his appreciation to his family, coworkers, and the community that had supported him over the years. He shared memories and anecdotes covering much of the last 49 years. His dedication is appreciated more than he may know.
