Hayden Library has been hosting events for as long as anyone can remember. Known mostly for their “Storytime,” which is geared towards children, they also have events that are sure to be of interest to teens, and even adults.
“We try to do something for everyone” Bea Bejarano, Lead Librarian, said.
At a recent class on “Glass Suncatchers,” the library provided mandala themed window clings, and acrylic markers needed to color them in. While watching magic, this reporter sat down with Bea to learn about some other events they are hosting.
They currently have a “Forensics: Solve the Crime” class. This is a four-part class in which teenagers take on the role of a forensic technician to solve a homicide. This includes learning to write case studies, preparing a suspect profile, learning to analyze fiber, hair, fingerprints and handwriting, learning how to blood type, and finally a conclusion on who the murderer is.
They also host Lego Build Days, Cooking classes, Age Friendly Movement classes, and other events
Bea was especially proud of their University of Arizona Student Teen Advisory Board. It is hosted at the library once a month. This event is for teens 13-16 years old, is catered by Maria’s, and participants are paid to attend.
“We would love to see more people come out and take advantage of what the library has to offer,” said Bea. “We try not to be like your typical library where all you do is read books and have to be quiet.”
She said they have all kinds of everyday activities as well, such as sports equipment and board games.
“We really wanted to start a chess club, but only two people showed up. To register as a club, we need at least three,” she explained. “We have even tried doing things such as Bingo and other events for Adults and Seniors as well.”
So next time you are looking for something to do, give a call to Hayden Library at (928)200-2997 or stop in and get a calendar of their monthly events. They would love to see you there. Classes are open to anyone in the Copper Corridor.
