On Saturday, Jan. 4, the Oracle State Park hosted their first star party of 2025. Starting off the evening, Oracle’s dark sky guy, Mike Weasner, gave a presentation on smartphone astrophotography.
Those in the audience were given a slight history of astrophotography, and how it has evolved over the years. In current times, the smartphone is capable of capturing breathtaking images of the galaxy, that used to be limited to expensive telescope observatories. Weasner gave the crowd tips and pointers for amateur astrophotography, and how they can utilize their smartphones to capture their own wonderful images of the cosmos.
Once the presentation was over, and the sun was set, the Tucson Amateur Astronomer Association was outside with multiple high end telescopes. People were allowed to see views of the moon, Venus, Mars, and more. Be sure to visit the Oracle State Park’s website and see what other events they’ll be hosting in 2025!
