Ruben M. Huerta, AKA “Big Rube”, lifelong Arizona resident, sadly passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, in Apache Junction, Arizona.

Ruben was born in Ray-Sonora where he lived until he was 6, then moved to Superior where he grew up and attended Superior Public Schools. He loved participating and watching sports of all kinds and was one of Little League’s home run kings and excelled in sports throughout his scholastic years.

Ruben was a devoted fan of the NFL team Pittsburgh Steelers and college team, The Arizona Wildcats. He loved music and sweets of all kinds, watching sports and old comedy shows on T.V. and of course Lottery Scratchers! He loved to laugh and was sometimes the instigator of many pranks! Despite having Parkinson’s, Ruben never gave up and gave it his all until the very end.

Ruben leaves behind his mother, Josie M. Huerta; daughter, Yvette (Chris) Calhoun; brother, Danny (Denise) Huerta; sister, Rachel (Joe); grandchildren, Jonathan, Jameson and Julia; and many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

Ruben is preceded in death by his father, Fernando C. Huerta; and grandson, Christopher Ruben Calhoun.

A piece of our hearts is missing but will be filled on that wonderful day we meet again. We will always love and miss you Ruben!
