After a year in the trophy case at Ray High School, the Copper Helmet has once again returned to Superior. Ray gained possession of it with last year’s win over the Panthers.

This year, the Panthers returned the favor.

The Superior football team hosted the Ray Bearcats under the Friday night lights last week. The Panthers were coming in hot off of their previous victory over Cicero Prep and Ray was celebrating their three-win streak.

Both sides battled hard and at halftime the score sat at 30-14 in the Panthers’ favor.

The Panthers put up a fight and kept their grip over the Bearcats. The ‘Cats and Panthers continued to add points to their sides of the scoreboard.

In the end, the Panthers emerged the victors with a final score of 60-40. Superior’s seniors, Nicholas Rabago, Joel Romero, Brayden Clary and Anthony Arroyos celebrated the Copper Helmet victory.

The Bearcats are preparing for their final home game of the regular season against Hayden this Friday, Oct. 18. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Superior will venture into Blue Devils’ space to take on Valley Union in their final regular game of the season. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Hayden Lobos

The Hayden football team traveled to take on Cicero Prep last Friday night. The boys came out ready to show the Centurions what Hayden Lobo football looks like.

Holding their opponents out of the end-zone, the first half of the game sat at a 47-0 score. Coming out in the second half, just as agile and aggressive as the first half, the Lobos were able to continue making it into that end-zone. The game ended with a final score of 67-6, making it a Lobo victory, giving them their eighth win of the season.

The boys will travel to take on Ray for the last game of the regular season, on Friday, Oct. 18, with a 7 p.m. kickoff. Come out and support your Lobos!

San Manuel Miners

The San Manuel football team traveled to Glendale to take on the Desert Heights Prep Coyotes last Friday. It was a tough time on the field for the Miners, who did their best to keep the Coyotes from scoring, but their defense couldn’t stop the Coyotes’ offense.

The boys were able to make it into the end-zone a few times though, keeping the Coyotes from shutting them out. The game ended with a loss for the Miners, and a final score of 14-32.

The Miners will play their final game of the regular season on Friday, Oct. 18, the homecoming game against Baboquivari, with a kickoff time of 7 p.m. Be sure to come out and support the Miners!
