SUPERIOR, AZ, August 14, 2024—The next Community Working Group (CWG) meeting to discuss the proposed Resolution Copper mining project, located near Superior, Arizona, will be Wednesday, Sept. 11, starting at 6 p.m.

At this meeting, there will be an update from the Good Neighbor Agreement Relationship Committee, a presentation from BHP Mining on its Voluntary Remediation Program and a schedule for the disposition of BHP property in Superior, and a report from both Resolution hydrologists and the Water Monitoring Group’s contractor, Matrix.

CWG meetings are held quarterly at the Superior Chamber of Commerce 165 W. Main Street, Superior, AZ

About the Community Working Group

The CWG focuses on potential environmental impact issues, science and policy, economic development and growth, and the pros and cons of the proposed development of the Resolution Copper mine, which could become one of the world’s largest copper mining ventures. Members include stakeholders and interests from the Town of Superior, Queen Valley, Miami, Kearny, Pinal and Gila Counties and other nearby communities. Topics include environmental stewardship, transportation, education, health, safety, natural resource issues, water and air quality and quantity, community investments, recreation, social changes and many other related subjects. The group was formed and has been meeting to discuss these issues since 2013.

About Resolution Copper

The Resolution Copper project is a proposed underground mine 60 miles east of Phoenix, Arizona, near the town of Superior. The project is a joint venture owned by Rio Tinto (55%) and BHP (45%). The ore deposit lies nearly 7,000 feet below the earth’s surface. It represents one of the most significant untapped copper deposits today. The mine has the potential to supply nearly 25% of US copper demand.
