Lawrence (Lencho) V. Ortiz lived to be 100 years old and passed away on July 4, 2024, at his home in Mammoth, Arizona. He was surrounded by his immediate family.

Lencho was born on April 9, 1924, in Winkelman, Arizona to Jose and Dolores Ortiz.

After completing high school, he went to work at Asarco in the unloading department. He joined the Army and served during World War II. Upon completing his service in the Army, he began Barber school in California and returned to Mammoth. He set up his barber shop in Tiger and Mammoth, Arizona. Lencho cut hair for about 76 years.

On July 28, 1946, he married Mary Jo Bert and together they made their home in Mammoth, Arizona.

Lencho enjoyed watching old western movies, listening to live mariachi music, golfing, and going to the casino. He also enjoyed going for rides in the hills where he would collect rocks for his rock collection and build his rock walls and flower beds. He also enjoyed cleaning his yard and watering his plants. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Mary, family and friends.

Lencho is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Dolores Ortiz; wife, Mary Jo Ortiz; brothers, Jose, Alfred, Roberto and Jesus; and sisters, Mary Ann, Laura, Connie and Vera.

Survivors include his sons, John (Cecelia) Ortiz, Robert (Mary Jo) Ortiz and Mike (Bea) Ortiz; daughter, Lori Maxwell (Martin Romero); grandchildren, Robert Jr. (Hope) Ortiz, Michael Ortiz, Brian (Valoree) Ortiz, Danielle Monroe, Breanna Ortiz, Jason (Amanda) Ortiz, Danielle (Eric) Herbert and Matthew Maxwell; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Lawrence (Lencho) Ortiz will be announced at a later time. He will be laid to rest at Valley View Cemetery, Mammoth, Arizona.
