Have you ever wondered why there are Spelling Bees?
According to the Scripps National Spelling Bee program it all began nearly a century ago with nine newspapers which joined together to host a spelling bee, in order to promote literacy. Their site, easily found by typing ‘spellingbee.com’ into your favorite browser, is full of interesting information on many aspects of the not-for-profit Spelling Bee that so many schools participate in.
Who were Ray Elementary School’s winners? First place was won by Katelynn Acevedo; second place, Alicia Rivera; and third place, Michael Hernandez. The three alternates will be Alexiana Valdez, Jamey Wernett and Erianna Armenta.
Other students participating in the spelling bee were: Ben Wade, Dariani De Los Reyes, Areli Hernandez, Alexa Granillo, Brailee Cook, Gabriella Ashley, Samayah Jackson, Dominyc Gallego, Kristian McLaughlin, Camilla Garcia, Ethan Meza, James Richardson and Bella Martinez!
Congratulations, students!
