The Hayden baseball team played some solid ball on the field last week.

The Lobos started off their week with a home game against Fort Thomas. The boys took control right from the start, and completely shut out their opponents. The game ended with a 19-0 final score, and a Lobo victory.

The Lobos traveled to Morenci to compete in the 43rd Morenci Lions Club Annual Baseball Tournament. Their first game was against Thatcher. The game remained neutral for the first three innings. In the fourth inning, the Eagles scored 4 runs, and the Lobos scored 2 runs. That would be the only time Thatcher would score any runs, as the Lobos tightened their defense. The game ended with another Lobo victory, and a score of 12-4.

Their next game was against Morenci, where the Lobos played a tough game. The game started in Morenci’s control until the fifth inning, where the Lobos took it back, and ran with it. The game ended with a big win of 24-9, sending the Lobos into the finals.

The boys met up against Safford in the championship round. The Lobos played a tough game, but the boys were unable to come out with the first place win. The final score of the game was 1-13, making the Lobos the 43rd Morenci Lions Club Annual Baseball Tournament Runner-ups.

  Congratulations Lobos!

The Hayden softball team had a busy time on the diamond last week. They began their week with a home game against Mogollon. The Lady Lobos spent the majority of the game trying to catch up to the Mustangs, and came close but fell short, with a final score of  8-12.

The next day, the girls hosted Fort Thomas. The Lady Lobos took it to the field, and played a tough game of ball. The outcome of this game was better than the previous one, as the girls took the victory with a final score of 19-9.

The following day, the Lady Lobos traveled to Joseph City. It was a hard game for the girls, who struggled to hold off the Wildcats. The game ended with a hard loss of 1-17.

The girls ended the week with an away game against Superior. The girls took the lead in the first inning, but Superior began to catch up in the later innings, and eventually took the lead by 1 run, resulting in a tough close loss of 5-6.
