While we have enjoyed a lot of snow in the past few weeks, those of us who reside in this area know that wildfire season is year around … no longer just the spring and summer. As the snow melts and it gets warmer, we begin to think about the brush, trimmings, etc. drying and wildfires.

But did you know, most wildfires are human caused?  In 2020 when 2,520 wildfires burned 980,000 acres in our state, 80% were human caused!  We can work together to prevent wildfires!

Please join the Oracle Fire District and the Oracle Firewise Board on March 23 at 6 p.m. at the Oracle Community Center, 685 E. American Avenue in Oracle for a “Wildfire Preparedness- What is Your Role?” Town Hall Meeting.

There will be guest speakers to include representatives from the AZ Department of Forestry and Fire Management,  Coronado National Forest officials, Oracle Fire District, and Co-Chairs of Oracle Firewise.    Topics to be discussed will include the upcoming wildfire season, how to protect yourself, your children, your property and your neighbors, etc.    There will also be opportunities to enroll in the Emergency Notification System that is available in Oracle and opportunities for a free property assessment to aid in identifying problem areas.  Smokey Bear will have treasures for the children attending and there will be raffles of prizes for four lucky people who attend.

The Oracle Community Center will also host a fund raiser dinner at 5 p.m. at $10 a plate.  All proceeds from the dinner will go to the Community Center.
